Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaker. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which is a website with videos and guest posts analyzing the portrayals of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for over a decade. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that investigates representations of women in the popular media narratives. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her main focus. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to targeted harassment against women online as well as other communities which are excluded. Sarkeesian who has the degree of Master's in Social and Political thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a sought after public speaking. She has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. As a university student she became concerned about issues related to gender identity and women's rights at an early stage. She had a plan to start an internet-based series on the role of gender in games and was then the victim of a harassment campaign online. This attack didn't stop her, but instead strengthened the determination of an activist for women in media. Numerous awards have been given to her as a way of acknowledging her contributions to the field she made. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning media critic. She also serves as the creator and director of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organisation that studies pop culture representations of females.
