Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football and volunteer work in the community. The first is his familial. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children on an Eufala farm. The Selmons were also among the three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. All three became All-America. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. The three years he was an offensive lineman, Oklahoma went 32- 1-1 and won two national championships. In his role as a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon received a scholarship for the third time in 1975. Selmon received a degree in education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer times a week in his time in college. After graduation, he landed in Tampa and played for nine seasons with the Buccaneers was an all-pro three times before beginning an entrepreneurial career. He began his career in 1988. began working as an Account Relations Officer in the First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as well as the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There was no doubt that In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy one of 10 outstanding youngsters across the country. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs in the time he played football at college. The year 1975 was the first time he led the group. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as an assistant director of sports. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame by his fellow members of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as in the Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented the Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Jr. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor, who awarded this award.
